My uncle is a movie star! As a film editor, it's fun to take on personal projects. This is my little revival of a film my uncle starred in, back in 1977—mostly for the fun of bringing his performance back to life. Warren Hammack is Johnny.
'Johnny Vik' is based on a true story, discussed in the newspaper clipping below. The film centers an intersection between Native Americans, military veterans, mental health, and social acceptance. As people continue to suffer under an economic system built on white supremacy, this injustice from the 70's remains relevant today. Black Lives Matter, the Standing Rock protests, support of Palestine, etc., these contemporary movements confront the injustices we still face as we inherit histories of genocide.
