Updating my site, I wanted to make some major improvements in the overall presentation of my work. I knew I was planning on using it as part of my resume, so it had to look professional. But it's also a personal website, hence the name "alexrlevy," so it also had to reflect my tastes and sensibilities as an artist. With this in mind, I knew I didn't want my site to feel fabricated on the computer - I'm not really one for sleek. Instead I wanted the aesthetic to be something more organic, so I decided to incorporate pictures in my menu-bar. I cut out some stencils and spent a few nights photographing them, arranging each stencil in a way that related to its word - for music I played music, that sort of thing. Then I took pictures of the music and arranged them in the menu-bar. You can look at a few of those images a bit larger here:
So with the menu-bar, I sort of fell upon a theme that I liked and started incorporating it into the rest of my site. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the changes I made to the site. My only concern is that the navigation is a little confusing, but not really.
I was fifteen when I made my last site, so it was time for renovation. But it's still up and running for anyone who wants to look at it. You might find a few old movies and things that I took down for this site:
