During senior year in high school, Iris Adams approached me with a really compelling story about a boy in Baltimore city. She wanted to make it into a film, so we set to work writing a script, casting, and preparing to shoot. What we had in mind was a pseudo-documentary interspliced with a narrative story. I think we came a little short of our goal, largely on my part as the filmmaker and storyteller - I feel that the audience would have more empathy for Giovianni if more of the story was devoted to getting to know him as a character- so I'm a little unhappy with the product. But I think it's a really important story that should be told and I was glad to be involved. A boy attempts to cope with the pressures of a struggling family in inner city Baltimore.
