For the past five years I’ve been an avid filmmaker.  I enjoy developing ideas, collaborating with friends, and creating visual stories.  My older brother and I taught ourselves how to write, direct, and edit films; I have been doing this since fifth grade, and by now I have worked on over twenty-five films.  About half of these have been entirely my own projects.  As I’ve progressed as a filmmaker I’ve started receiving recognition for my film projects, inspiring me to go further.  What began just for fun has become a serious undertaking.  Filmmaking energizes me and gives me purpose.  I am seriously considering it as a career.

Apart from film, the violin has been a large part of my life.  I’ve studied violin for over thirteen years and have found it to be very gratifying. The individual attention from my teacher has helped me mature as I’ve learned the worth of diligence and discipline, working towards a goal.  My playing has developed into a source of self-satisfaction and pleasure; often I just pick up the violin to express emotions.  I don’t intend on becoming a professional musician, but I know that the violin is going to follow me my entire life.  What’s so wonderful about film though is that I can further my musical endeavors by composing soundtracks or performing pieces directly for my movies; I’ve already begun integrating my music into my movies.

I will be attending Vassar College this September 2008 where I hope to continue my artistic pursuits while exploring my academic interests as well.
